As part of Leicester’s Greyfriars Townscape Heritage Initiative news a one day practical training course was provided to ten delegates to gain an understanding of why we use lime in historic buildings, the different types and applications of lime and how to mix and apply lime mortar. The training focused on the practical elements of working with lime.

Sleight Conservation’s work on the restoration of St Mary’s Church in Leamington Spa has been recognised by the Leamington Society.
On July 8th David received a “Certificate of Commendation “in recognition of the significant contribution made to the quality of Royal Leamington Spa.

The Leamington Society aims to “Promote high standards of planning and architecture, develop and extend knowledge of Royal Leamington Spa and to secure the protection and preservation of features of historic or public interest”.
Visit to Cambodia, May 2010
David was invited to join an international team of eminent conservation experts to advise on the conservation issues of 10th century brick shrines in Cambodia.
The four day workshop was organised by the World Monument Fund. Other delegates included English and Italian engineers, conservation experts from America as well as Japanese and Cambodian archaeologists.
The shrines were within the Angkor Archaeological park close to the town of Seim Reap. Several shrines were surveyed and assessments made of their condition and possible methods of repair.
The decay of the fabric was quite complex with structural movement, root infestation and termites all contributing to their long term failure.
It must be said that although repairs to the brickwork shrines are at an early stage repairs to other stone monuments have been carried out by local tradesmen and are of a high standard.
